Catching Loumy putting on his special little "Tom's Natural Deodorant" this morning made me feel like laughing and crying at the same time. As you can see, I dashed for my camera and caught him finishing up (it helped that this is his first time putting it on himself and he spent a good 30 seconds on each pit).
Doesn't it seem that if you have to stand up on a footstool in the bathroom to see in the mirror that you shouldn't have to be putting on deodorant? Especially if you are 3?
A few months ago I noticed a smell akin to one of Chancho's shirts that he has worked out in and accidentally left in his gym bag for several weeks (not that he does that, but that's what I imagined the smell to be like). I sniffed around and, to my horror, discovered that it was coming from under Loumy's armpits. I thought it was a fluke and quickly gave him a bath. Thirty minutes later, I could smell him again. I put some of Chancho's deodorant on him, which he thought was awesome. Over the next couple of months the smell would come and go from him. I talked to my brother (our pediatrician) because I was worried this might be a sign of precocious puberty. He told me that the smell itself was nothing to worry about and told me what signs to keep an eye out for. I tried to ignore it, but I don't want my son to get a reputation as the "stinky kid". I also didn't want to be using adult strength deodorant on him so I finally bought him his own special stick.Loumy thinks its great but seeing him putting it on this morning, as I said, first made me laugh because I thought he looked so cute. But then I almost started to cry because I think he already has such a grown up look to his face and I felt like I was peering into the future to see my son as a teenager or a man getting ready to go out with his friends or on a date and it made me realize that this will actually be happening faster than I can begin to imagine right now. I had to go kiss him all over and then squash his head down playfully, as my father often does, and say, "don't grow up! stop getting so big!"

I'm sorry to say, but I think he is growing up fast. I would never have guessed he was only three from pics on your blog. I thought he was more like 5. That growing up thing is scarey. I've noticed things about my nine year old that had me holding in a gasp because I didn't expect it until she was much older. It seems this growing up thing is way too quick and they will be out on missions or off to college before we can even imagine. It makes you want to hold on to them and never lt go.
Oh, look we are on at the same time and I just commented 2 minutes after you on Lover of Sweets blog.
But I have to tell you, you are worried that you are getting a vision of what the future holds for the Loum just by his applying the white stick to his pits - well, I am here to tell you that teenage boys do not do that .... they have to be forced to remember to do that!!! And to brush their teeth and wash their face and change their socks and underwear and I'm just saying....
So maybe the starting at a young age is a good thing for you. Don't let a good thing slack off.
I just love that kid. I had so much fun w/him yesterday! If you ever need someone to watch him or if he's just plain bored, PLEASE send him over! I'm serious. Anytime. he's such a special little spirit.
I mostly like that somewhere in this whole wide world of stores you found a deodorant called "Little Tom's"--that in and of itself is hilarious...I love Loumy and mostly wish he were mine. As for the stink, strange thing for Mittlins...he sometimes gets this very adult, strong smell and I finally realized he gets it when he is really scared...like after the fireworks, or if he sees something in his window (that we can't see)but he is crying his "real cry" and then he has that smell. I'm not saying Loumy is scared, I am just saying they can have that smell when the are young and it is normal...but then again Mittlins is definitaly not normal so never mind..ha ha ha
such a great picture. why do they grow up so fast? i guess that's really why we have to enjoy every day with them and learn to enjoy every stage. :)
Yes, I am sorry your little man is growing up so fast, but he does look dang cool and cute there applying his little Tom's deodorant.
What a cutie pie. I have a son who is three and is just as precocious. I dread the day he has to turn into a man and use deoderant. I am so glad it's nothing serious for your little man and you found something safe for him to use.:)
Oh man! I have been having too much fun catching up on your blog. Well, it wasn't ALL fun. I have found that your writing tends to make me cry a whole lot. This is not a bad thing by any means, but I really felt for you when you were waiting to bring Loumy home and now watching him grow up right before your eyes and then I laughed so hard at Deedle's swimsuit drama and String Cheese getting all up in your face telling you that it's Deedle's life!
I am so glad to know you Perlisima! I was delighted to hear of your quirks too! here's one I've got, I always read words on signs or labels and whatnot backwards. I really think this means that I am a true whack job.
That is the funniest picture I seen all week.
OK its so sad, but those were cute pics. I love that little man.
I saw Izzy the other night and I hadn't seen him in a year or more and he is so dang cute. He keeps getting cter. Same with Loumy He does look just like a man with his muscular physique. swiss has the same thing going on cuz she's rather curvy for a PYT. Have a great night/ Just got back from fireworks did you go? Ciao for now
Just peeking into your parlor for a look and wow! Are those ever great blackmail pictures. I can already hear him now 10 years from now, "Tell me you didn't put pictures of me putting D.O. on when I was 3!"
What a great mom!
They grow up way to fast, don't they? My son turns 9 today and although he is thrilled I can't help but be a little bit sad! I'm going to add yoy to my blogroll...I hope you don't mind..
That is such a GREAT photo! My son does the same thing, dashes off while we're hanging out to apply some deoderant. I humor him and let him think he is so big. What a great family you have. They are ALL very beautiful! Treasure each and every day, you are so blessed.
HA! You wish you weren't in a blogging slump and unable to post for over a week! Sucker.
P.S. WHAT?!! Did someone really answer "I don't care, I don't read your posts anyway" on your survey? That can not be true. I'll tell you what happened, it only shows up as "I don't care I do. . ." so they just were saying they don't care if they are bold or not because either way they are scrumptious.
yes, nancy, SOMEbody did vote that they didn't care because they don't even read my blog anyway and that SOMEbody is my husband and he does read my blog, he justed wanted to answer that because he is jealous.
Was it really him? That is awesome. I love how jealous he is. I am sure that is why he calls me "youknowwhatpizza at blogspot.com" -- because he's jealous.
Perla,
I do not have a blog yet. I will let you know if I ever start one.
Until then I might just email you some pictures of Henry as he grows. I just take pics of Emily's kids for her blog. I guess I am living through her. ha ha ha ha
becky
I just really love him! That smile is to die for.
Don't ever let Goldums hear you say anything remotely like what you said to Loumy or I'm afraid she'd just crumble up and die since she hates the thought of getting old.
