I can't remember if I've ever posted about how much I love my baby or not, so I thought I should do a little post about him. :) He's had a few rough things this week. First, he got thrush AGAIN. The purple you see is not ink from a pen, as one individual at the store asked me. Rather, it is gentian violet. It works well but is messy!
I think Finn has had thrush at least a dozen times. Oh, and speaking of people at the store...an old man stuck his dirty old finger in Finn's mouth. Yep. Finn was sticking out his tongue and the man thought it was so cute he came right over and pushed it in with his finger. I didn't even say anything, I just made a whimpering sound. What else could I do?
Another sad thing that happened to Finn this week is the same thing that happens several times every week. He likes to do this "leg-slam" thing. The first time he did it about a month ago, Chancho and I were in bed and thought somebody was banging on the door or something. Finn lifts both legs up high above his head and then just slams them down onto his mattress as hard as he can. Its the funniest (and loudest) thing. He does it over and over again and gets himself turned around and...often...when his legs come slamming down one of them gets caught in between the rails of his bed. I can never let him cry himself to sleep or back to sleep at night because I'm always afraid his leg has gotten caught again. It is often wedged in there really tight and is painful and red when I carefully lift it back out.
We were talking about it at dinner and the kids came up with a few suggestions of how we could avoid this problem. First, Deedle suggested we line his crib with plastic. Then when we gently shot down that idea, Loumy brightened up and suggested we use sheets of metal. Hm...do any of you have any other less deadly suggestions?
After one of these episodes, Finn will often need a little snuggle time watching sports with dad.
Finn hardly slept on Thursday or Friday night. I didn't know what the problem was. Saturday he started running a fever and I was cursing the dirty-old-man-finger from Walmart. But then I noticed that he would cry when he tried to lie his head down on my chest. I tugged gently on his earlobe and he screamed. Yep. Uncle John took a look for us and sure enough, bad infections in both ears! So, the little man has had a rough week. Poor baby. I think I may have said that a few too many times. Tonight Deedle came up to him in a soft voice and sweetly said, "oh, my little baby! you are so so so poor!"
And now I have a question for you. A few days ago Chancho found an old picture of me being held by my older brother, Aaron. He was amazed at it. He said that Finn looks exactly like me. He said several times the resemblance was "uncanny", which I think is a little overboard because, after all, I am his biological mother. But then the very next day my nephew Adam said, "Finn looks EXACTLY like Chancho. I mean EXACTLY. Its weird!" And that, is not uncanny or weird, either, because Chancho happens to be his biological father. But the vote seems split on who he looks like. Either Finn looks exactly as I did as a baby or exactly as Chancho does as an adult, apparently. So, what do you all think?

I think he looks like you as a baby. I won't be able to give a vote to Chancho until Finn grows a little and shaves his head, but for now, I'm voting for you.
And, do you know that you don't post a lot of pics of Chancho on your blog? I had to give a double take at the one with Finn to see if it was Chancho or a nephew or something. Perhaps that is why I don't see the resemblence to the Chanch yet, I don't know him well enough.
And, I'm sorry your baby has been sickie. You were GOOOOOOD not to say something to that awful guy who gave Finn the finger!!!!
I think it's both. When I saw the picture of Finn and Chancho watching sports I thought he looked exactly Chancho. But then when I saw the picture of you as a baby, he does look like you. So I choose both-you as a baby and Chancho as an adult. Which I find amusing for some reason.
Tia, that is because Chancho aint super keen on photos -- handsome though he is.
I don't know anything except that he looks like Deedle.
AND, Jesse does the leg slam too. I was up at 5 this morning and I just kept hearing, "WHAM" "Wham" on his mattress. But FInn's leg pic is sad. DOes he have bumper pads in there? Not that those would stop a leg coming from above getting out really.
Anywho, he is quite the easy baby to love for all of us what with his pleasantness and smiles.
At first I too thought he looked just like Chancho. I can't get over the fact that he is so Allgreen. There is no denying it!
I think what has happened here is one of those phenomenons that you don't quite often hear about where the baby looks exactly like both of the parents at different stages of their lives. No, it is not uncanny or weird, but it is what happens when two awesome people get together and make beautiful babies.
Just thought I would state the obvious.
Yep he looks like you! And oh my I cannot believe a man could be SO stupid! That is so gross!
And I would love for Zac to be able to do the indoor soccer, if he could be on Andre's team, please let me know.
Personally, I think he looks like the Gerber baby. Especially the picture of him on the sidebar! (Okay, and you!) Cute picture of you and Aaron!
Poor little guy is right, you are so lucky to have brother that is also a pediatrician! And the leg thing, wow I hope he stops doing that I can't imagine it feeling too good;) Hmm and I think he looks just like you as a baby. But like Chancho as an adult. Bennett looks just like Brandon now, but not so much as a baby!
i'm with tia, i think finn is a little mini you as a baby.
i'm sorry mr finn has been sick. that's the worst thing every! and mosty i'm sorry that old man stuck his finger in his mouth. ugh! why do people do things like that? i had one old guy (also in walmart - hmmm - i'd say maybe it was the same guy but we live a little far apart for that to be the case) come up to lexie and start playing with her toes and fingers and all i could think was "she sucks on those and i have NO clue who you are." odd. odd. so ... i'm glad uncle john got finn squared away (btw i really do miss your bro as my ped. :) ) and i hope that adorable baby is on the mend.
(ps-have you put a bumper on finn's bed? i know what they say about safety and bumpers but i've always used them, and for a little while lexie didn't have one on her crib and would also get stuck. now, bumper - and no leg in the bars.)
Finn is way too cute! I am not sure just yet, maybe he looks like a little of both of you (pleading the 5th.) I have an idea for Finn... we had a problem like this with Anthonie and we started using a portable playpen/crib. It worked very well and we all were able to sleep a little batter at night. :) When we traveled on trips Anthonie slept very well because he was already used to sleeping in the crib. Just a thought. I hope all is well for you and your sweet family.~Mare
Your baby look exactly like BOTH of you! All you need to do is color your mouths purple in the old photos. Ha-ha!
I love that you took a photo of your son's leg stuck in the railings right before you got it unstuck. He probably was even crying a little. That is SO something I would have done too. Gotta document those little moments my friend!
You family is stunningly beautiful.
Poor poor little baby. He looks so cute with even blue mouth!
