Halloween Week

WHOO-EE! This is a lot of photos for one blog post!

Festivities began on Thursday night with pumpkin carving. Chancho did the most work for sure. Here he is carving the face on String Cheese's pumpkin. I think String Cheese liked the guts of her pumpkin a little too much! Deedle liked the guts a little bit too little.
Loumy tried to draw a picture of how he wanted his face but then just got out a book and showed us instead.Friday morning Loumy dressed up in his Mace Windu costume for his preschool party. After dropping off Loumy, we raced up to the school (late of course) for Deedle and SC's Halloween parade. Patti held my little skeleton while I took photos of the girls. I also snapped a shot of friend Jenna...... and this cool "old man". I think any parent who would cut their son's hair like this for Halloween must be super cool (I know her and she is).The kids were thrilled to basically have two Halloweens since they partied all day Friday and still had the best-still-to-come on Saturday (the trick-or-treating, of course). The weather was very cold this week, even with some snow. This morning, however, we woke up to sun and a little higher temperatures.

The highlight of Halloween week for me personally was going for a bike ride down on our trail with the entire family! Chancho spent quite a bit of time fixing all of our flat tires and hooking up the trailer for Finn and that type of thing. And if you are wondering whether or not Loumy is riding a girls' bike, he is NOT. It just happens that it used to be his sisters bike and it is purple (just like Mace Windu's light sabre). But it no longer has any girl stickers, rather is now be-decked in Star Wars stickers and is a full-blown Star Wars bike for a BOY. And don't any of you dare tell Loumy otherwise! It was so gorgeous on the trail with the sunshine and the fall leaves and the river...but after about one second I dropped all of the batteries out of my camera and could only find 3 of the 4 so these are the only shots I got.

When we got home, it was FINALLY time to start putting on costumes and makeup. String Cheese would not allow me to do her face white again, but she still looked awesome. The kids were amazingly patient while I took their photos, even though they were super anxious to get their trick-or-treat on.
Deedle, by the way, is an Ice Princess or a Snow Queen. But not an Ice Queen. All month people have been asking her what she is going to be for Halloween and when she told them, "Ice Queen", much to her dismay they would respond, "An Icecream? How cute!" The "icecream" accusation inevitably led to much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. So, I convinced her to call herself "Ice Princess" or "Snow Queen" instead (depending on her mood) and that helped us avoid the "icecream" landmine. I thought the geisha was quite original for SC this year, but at the parade at school I saw 4 of them in second grade alone. Funny how that works. SC didn't care one bit, so I didn't either.

At last the kids were off. Finn and I stayed home to pass out candy while Chancho took the kids around the block. I snapped this shot of one of our neighbors. She always dresses up cool to take her grandkids around for treats.

We finished off the night by going over to Chancho's parents to visit and do a little more trick-or-treating with Uncle Brian (aka Cookie Monster) and Myely-the-amazing-Lobster-dog.
I hope ya'll had as happy of a Halloween as we did!

Oh, I like me some pictures in posts! Those were awesome!

Now, have you not gotten the lecture from Nancy about having a pop-up comment window for comments because she can't stand it when she has so many things to say and then when she wants to say them, she can't remember them because the post is not at the ready to remind her of what she wants to say. I'm sure after this post, Nancy is going to have a long, long talk with you.

Anywho, I will not tell Loumy about the girl, I mean purple bike with torquoise kind of girl looking tires, if you do not tell ET that all her jeans are hand me down boy jeans .... I will be shopping for girl patches this week. (Did you have patches on your jeans when you were a kid? I had a rollerskate on my favorite pair.... somehow I don't think that will cut it for ET to make the boy jeans acceptable. But maybe some star wars stickers....)

And the ice cream princess - oh that is so funny! I'm glad you had the wherewithall to tell her how to handle it by her word choice. I totally knew who she was! Vanilla Ice! And she totally rocked it!

And the Geisha - WAY COOL!!!! Where did you get that dress? Tell me you didn't make it! Because if you did, that would put all mothers and fathers on earth to shame. Speaking of, did you make all the costumes? (Now if you had that Nancy-loved comment pop up thing, I would be able to reference back to see the post to see if you did make them...)

And finally, the skeleton - he was my favorite.

Mostly though, we did not carve pumpkins this year because of the whole no-sink issue. I missed carving pumpkins and was a little sad that we didn't get to do it. It really does look like you had a dandy holiday! Hip Hip!

Now, go get cha a pop up window now would ya?

Oh your kids looked so so great! I feel a little guilty because I am now one of those moms who just make them throw together some old crud from around our house and call it a costume.

And yes, I love that a mom would cut her kids hair that way for the old man. That is awesome.

And what fun your little family bike riding looked.

your wish is my command, my dear tia.

and no, i did not sew a single costume this year. last year i made sc's genie costume but ended up spending so much on fabric and trimmings! so that made me sad, but the costume sure turned out cute. this year when i saw the girls costumes at tj maxx on a rack in early sept for $19 i snatched them up! and i planned to make andre's. but we just ran out of time and he was demanding it so we finally bought him his flimsy costume from walmart.

and funny you asked about patches. i just patched a pair of sc's jeans this week with a cute rectangle of bright fabric on the knee. she said she likes it. we'll see...

I love all of your photos. I had to laugh about the "Ice Cream", it is amazing what little things can be the triggers. Since Marcus was sick last week with the "swiney", and even though he is recovered, the little landmines have become much more prevalent! AAAAhhhhh.

*sigh*

It has been far too long since I stopped by for a little blog visit. I am so thrilled to see that you and your family are doing well.

The Halloween pics are great and the updated pics of the birthday kiddies are fantastic.

It is clear that God continues to bless your faithfulness and through that, your family.

Looks like you guys have been having fun in the fall weather! I love family bike rides - one of my favorite things. (Well - anything outside with family is one of my favorite things) The only drag with the bike rides is that little Action can't peddle fast enough on his little bike to keep up with us. He's easily peddling 5 times faster than the rest of us - but those darn little wheels just don't rotate as quickly as our big wheels. Still - last bike ride we did six miles - and he was awesome.

Love the costumes - the old man one is a crack up.

And November is Natl. Adoption month? That would explain why I've been hearing so much about it - I almost wondered if Heavenly Father was trying to do some personal Neon Sign for me. But I don't know if we'll ever really go there. We've talked about it - but, right now it's just talk with a husband that has lots of reservations. And honestly, I didn't want to watch the videos you uploaded because I think it would just confuse me more. (sigh) We have three healthy and beautiful babies - and aren't really in a financial situation to adopt - so, I think I just need to be grateful and enjoy my family as is.

Sorry - I don't really talk to people about this. Mostly because I don't have anyone close that has gone through it.

I gotta go now. Love the pics - love how big Mr. Skeleton is - HUGE - no one would know he had a rough start.

Love to all!
