You Know You Are Only Three...

...when your dad takes you to the bathroom at a soccer game and as you go to pull up your pants after doing your duty, your head smacks the toilet seat so hard that you almost knock yourself unconscious. Poor Loumy. Perfect height to hit that disgusting seat straight on with the forehead at a 90 degree angle. Yikes.
Loumy absolutely loves coming to MLS games with us. We love our local team and as we drive into the city, Loumy sees the stadium and starts chanting the team name. Okay, fine, its Salt Lake. Last time as we were driving up towards Rice Eccles and he saw the red "U" from afar, he looked at me, let out a loud sigh and said, "Mom, I love Salt Lake."
He also loves the mascot, "Leo the Lion" (until he actually comes near him). I have even had to invent a new nighttime lullaby about Leo. It goes something like this, "Leo the Lion from Real Salt Lake, Leo the Lion what a good friend you make...Leo, to Loumy you are such a dear friend, you both cheer the team on to the end..."

So I guess that's another thing that distinguishes you as a 3-year-old: You think it is super cool when your bedtime ritual involves being rocked and sang a lullaby about you and Leo the Lion.

Each night after teeth, scriptures and prayers, the kids line up at the "airport" where Chancho then flies them into their beds. Then, I go and give each one of them a lullaby or back tickles to a lullaby song on their CD player (their choice). Loumy prefers non-traditional lullabies. The other night it went like this:

Loumy: Can you sing me the motorcycle lullaby?
Me: Hm...I don't know that one. How does it go?
Loumy: (his voice getting very soft and high) Loumy rides his motorcycle...um...to Megan's house and Joe...and they ride to the horses...motorcycles...Now you do it, Mom.

So I made up a lovely lullaby about two cousins riding their motorcycles. He has requested this particular lullaby for the past 4 nights in a row. But Leo always comes back into demand when a soccer catalogue comes in the mail or we get to go to a game.

I love Loumy being three and will cry cry cry when he no longer thinks its cool for me to make up lullabies for him at night. But I will not cry when he is tall enough that he doesn't nearly knock himself unconscious on the toilet while trying to pull up his pants.

At least he did not actually pass out on the grimy bathroom floor like another sweet boy that I know ....but I think you need to record your lullabys. On tape. For him. Forever. And play them at his wedding. You are so dang cool!

it's so cool that he's so into soccer and loves going to the games. It's not so cool, however, that his poor little forehead made contact with the most disgusting things in the world.
Treatums loves when I sing him lullabies about monster trucks and tractors. How funny!
He'll even sing along and his eyes get all sparkly when I mention the different vehicles he drives around in.

I love that you sing made up lullabyes. I get to do that for my 3 year old too. It's always something requesting a fire truck, "heckacopter", or big truck. It's fun.
I love Loumy's hair!!! Too cute! I haven't had the head bonking on the potty-yet. What a fun mom you are.:) What a cute little boy.:)

OK the motorcycle lullably was awesome! you better make it come true. Joe loves that little cousin more than anyone else. He makes put the picture of he and Loumy Loumy up on the computer any time he sees me at the desk, where they are jumping into the pool...I miss you , Meg

oh i LOVE LOVE LOVE this post - is it because i have a three year old of my own and can relate?? :) i'm sorry about his poor head - and i'm sure it did hurt. my cole loved the msl soccer games too. i think he and loumy could have been great pals. :)

good work on the lullabies. cole's pretty good to stick with one lullaby i created for him but what he wants to hear every night is a new story - about whatever topic is stuck in his always churning brain. :) and my favorite is that he then wants to tell us a story- aka his version, more or less, of what we have just invented for him. ah. i love three year olds (most of the time :) ) too. thanks for making me think of the great things of 3s i love. :)

Hey! What an article today! For those of you reading this not in our area, Perla was the big news in our local paper today, and what a gal!! (Aren't you glad I mentioned this for you?) It really was great. You're beautiful!
Have you talked about your Haiti Foundation in your blog yet? I'll look, if not, I'd love to hear more about what you do. I'm curious how you got involved.

OH, Abe used to have my sing lullabies to him only they were supposed to be about how he came to us from heaven and how we love him, etc. etc. and they were so hoeeible and off key as I had no real melody to sing them to. It wasn't that long ago, but it has stopped and already might seem silly to him even though I think he'd still kind of like it. Oh I'm so sad now that I remember that :(

I always think I'll be sad when the G won't let me do something anymore, but then when the time comes, we're doing something else instead and it's really fun, too. I think it's the nicest thing about being a Mum, you get to grow up all over again!

Oh my favorite little A...sorry I call him that instead of Loumy but with the rest of the name...you know what I mean...since I have a big A and you have a little A...that was a sad but cute story. Yes, it is indeed a sad day when the rituals end. When they are all young you sometimes think, "oh, why can't they just go to sleep quickly" and now that most of mine do...I think, "why can't they call for me, or need something, or come and kiss ME goodnight etc. etc...As usual great posts...I must find time to post to my own blog again...oh ya and as someone else said, ,Shannon was on the backside of the front page today which is HUGE cause that is where they post all the stuff from around the world...WOWIE GIRL! Remember how I want to be what's his name, somebody Farmer from Mountains Beyond Mountains..well you are being him AND taking care of your kids...waaa...I want it all...Love, Sistuh

What a cute family you have lady!
Poor little guy. I always thought going to the bathroom as a boy was so much more convenient. I guess not, you gotta watch out for those toilet seats! YIKES!

Hey Perla, what a coincidence! Last week Nanny was bending over to pull up her pants and her head made a real love connection with the bathtub! Isn't that sad when their owies just come right out of the blue like that, so unsuspecting. I think you have a real knack for lullaby lyrics, you're a women of many talents!!

Hey girl- you are amazing. I love to get on your blog and see what you are up too--usually something very cool. Anyways, I love your lullabys...so cute. Kaden likes me to tell him "Once upon a time..." stories that involve him. He LOVES that. Sometimes I am fresh out of ideas, so he will help me along. Kids are so fun. I hope you don't mind if I add you to my friends list..see ya later!!!
