String Cheese has always been a romantic. At age 2 she insisted angrily to me, while riding in a cart at Sam's Club, "I am going to get married!" I agreed with her, I said that the majority of people actually do get married at some point and she probably would. But she seemed to feel the need of convincing me in her tiny little voice, almost daring me to try and stop her, "I am getting married! I am!"
She has often surprised me with questions about how you know when you are going to get married, how you know if the boy is the right one, how you go about getting engaged. "How old were you when you knew you wanted to marry Dad?" she asked one day. "25," I said. She just sat there pensively. So, I asked, "Why? Do you think you know who you are going to marry?" She smiled and said, "Yes."
(SC and Brian Joseph, age 3)
Recently romance has come up again for her and she has been expressing herself through the written word and drawings.

So, who is the boy in the pictures? I was able to guess quite quickly. It is still Brian Joseph. She has believed that she will marry him for quite some time now. We rarely see him or his family. They live 1.5 hours from us and the last she saw him was in the summer. They will be moving out of the state next summer and who knows when we will see the family. But the Josephs are our partners with Haitian Roots so I'm sure we will always be in touch and String Cheese has the faith that it will all work out.
(SC and Brian in June 2008 sharing some Chinese food at a swim party at Chareyl's house) Besides romance, the thing that has been on SC's mind recently is one of her top front teeth. After hanging precariously loose for several days, she finally allowed me to pull it out. SC insists that the Tooth Fairy is real, yet she doesn't believe in Santa Claus. Actually, I'm not sure how convinced she is in the fairy, but it makes her happy and I have no desire to take any other magic away that she might allow herself. Before bed she informed me, "I left a note for the Tooth Fairy. I am expecting a response." She looked long and hard at me as if I might have some control over whether or not she received one. I just shrugged.

Oh this is one of those priceless posts that one day she will kill you for but then another few years later she will be so glad you recorded! And who's to say that he won't be her eternal beau? I think it is absolutely darling - all those love notes! You can tell she worked so long and hard and that they were heartfelt. Too cute.
and PS - I wonder who will loose their second front tooth first - SC or ET? ET lost her first front tooth on Dec. 23 and we're still waiting for that second one to drop! I think toothless kids are the bomb!
I LOVE her pictures with her romantic comments. Does she get her romantic side from you?
T
I love that, and of course I hope she does marry Brian so she can show him that pic she drew so many years earlier. I'm glad nothing can break their hearts.
That is so tender. It makes me a little sad that she has such tender romantic feelings, and I hope she doesn't have to have her heart broken in the future--because it's always the sensitive ones that seem to get hurt the most. Well that is sweet, and I hope Brian will someday know what a faithful little sweetheart he has. :)
Oh she reminds me so much of Jess!! Even her drawings and the things she says although Jess was quite the believer in everything, the tooth fairy, Santa, Easter Rabbit etc. for a very long time....I hope she does indeed marry her true love--think of the beautiful children they would have...oh dear that is thinking a little too deep about it all...I love your little SC...she is one very darling, UNIQUE little girl.
Oh so sweet! Love that your girl is such a romantic. Her notes are so cute.
That is too funny! You so have your hands full with her. I hope her love for him stays strong:)
ps Natalie had to carry me out of our game and it brought back fond memories!!!
Oh,I love the drama! She is thinking way ahead of her age isn't she? What a cutie and oh so lucky to have a wonderful mother who documents her precious moments in this way!
She's got creativity, drive, focus, imagination, and some mean drawing skills. This girl will go far!
You don't often hear about love at first sight happening when you're... 3, but OK. What does Brian think about his "Won Twoo Wuv".
That is so awesome! I love her drawings, and especially her spelling. It totally makes sense. I can't believe she is big enough to write like that. So cool! That is one heck of a love story, can't wait to find out what happens... Hope the tooth fairy didn't disappoint.
She looks so dang beautiful and that boys is so hansome, no wonder she has decided "nothing can break our hearts". That was one sweet post about one sweet girl! I love I hope you can give me lots of your money! O I miss my little miss.
