Crying over Spilled Milk

I know there is no use. But still...The other night two of my beautiful nieces came over to watch The No. 1 Lady's Detective Agency with me. If you like the books you will love the new HBO series. We had a fabulous time. I made muddy buddies and brought down full glasses of milk. The moment I did it, I knew it was a mistake. We don't have a coffee table or any such thing to set milk on. I knew that milk was going to be spilled. And sure enough, it was. I quickly sponged it up with a towel and then sprayed some cleaner on it, then we went on with our show. Bad choice. Why oh why didn't I immediately get out the carpet steam cleaner???

Yesterday I came down to my lovely new basement with the new carpet that smells so clean and new...and I had to cry. Over spilled milk. The whole basement smells putrid. I first tried cleaning it again then steam cleaning. No go. I tried scrubbing with Odoban and then steam cleaning the Odoban out. No go. The smell isn't as horrible as it was but it does still stink bad.

Somebody reading this blog has to have had a bad milk/carpet experience before. Please help me!!! Online I read to try vinegar or baking soda. We're out of baking soda so I'll have to go buy some tomorrow. I don't really think vinegar smells much better than rotten milk, but maybe it will work. Any suggestions my dear, wise friends?

I can't imagine that vinegar would be good. I mean, isn't vinegar what you add to milk when you don't have BUTTERMILK? But maybe I don't know anything. I would bet that the baking soda would help after you have steam cleaned it and then I would use Fabreeze on it continually for a few days. I love Fabreeze.

And PS - in answer to your WW question on my blog, yes, it is working and I'm glad I am doing it despite it all. Today is one month and I am wavering between 9 and 10 pounds lost. Not bad considering this has mainly been from food choices since while I have exercised most days, I do so at a pretty low to moderate level. Also, I had company for a week, so that wasn't good. Here's to another 10 pounds in month 2! That is my goal - 15-20 pounds lost. :)

Baking Soda, definitely. Sprinkle it all over where the milk spilled and let it absorb all the odor and then clean it out.

Well for heaven's sakes. Penny dumped a cup on our carpet the other day and I just used a little soap and water and I haven't smelled a thing . . . but that could just be because no one can smell the difference what with all of the spit up already in my floor?? In the meantime, I am just jealous of your fun night with the nieces . . . and, is there only one of the detective lady shows so far?? I wish it could be recorded onto something so I could borrow and watch it with Mike.

nancy, you probably just took the time to actually clean the milk well while i was too excited to get back to the show.
regarding no1 ladies, there are now 5 episodes! they are all so cool. i have them all on our dvr. wish we could record them! but i'm sure they will eventually come out on dvd after the season is over. or maybe some time you can just come watch some with me, although its not likely our kids would let us watch quietly.

I'm so sorry about the milk. I don't have any solutions. But I wanted to thank you for your prayers and kind words. You are so sweet. I'm so glad you got the baby home and it looks like other than the milk all is well with your family. Congrats!

Please can we come over again and spill some more milk on your carpet soon? I suppose we COULD leave out the spilling milk part. =) I had SUCH a good time. And it turns out that Little One hadn't just been sleeping in his bed peacefully the whole time. I came home to find him sleeping peacefully in his swing downstairs with the vacuum blaring beside him and Hiram watching a Jazz game. At first I was like, "Ohhh, how sad that my little guy wasn't just perfectly happy and well-behaved while I was gone," but then instead I was like, "Ohhh, what a wonderful husband I have that just took care of him and didn't bother me about it or ruin my good fun girl time." Anyway, let's get together again this week. I'll bring a treat and the baking soda!
