Chancho's Favorite Holiday

My Chancho plays the bagpipes. He is very interested in his Irish and Scottish heritage. He loves St. Patrick's Day and has created a fun tradition for us. Since we can't go out and get drunk, we have a traditional Irish meal at home. The fun thing about the tradition for me is that he cooks the entire meal. He spends a lot of time planning. He loves to watch Food Network and likes to try new recipes. Chancho and String Cheese purchased t-shirts for all of us in anticipation of the occasion.

Tonight Chancho made corned beef and cabbage, kolcannon, potatoe-leak soup, carrots and turnips, and Irish apple cake for dessert. It was absolutely delicious. He had a CD of Celtic music on and luckily String Cheese had learned a little jig in kindergarten today to share with us.

This St. Pat's was extra special because we had Ashley and Hiram over as well as Megan and her five littles. They are so cute and we have missed them so much, so it was a real treat to have them with us to celebrate. Thanks, Chancho, for getting so excited about this day and making it fun for all of us! And thanks for letting us take your photo, even if you hate it and only make crazy faces!

Look how cute you all are in your green. What fun. I at least try to make a green meal usually, but this year I did nothin'. Bummer.

P.S. i just barelyrealized that if you click on a blog picture it shows it to you big. Huh. Who knew!

That's so fun...good job Chancho! I made corned beef for the first time yesterday and it was pretty good, I must say. Fun little holiday, especially when we got together with some of the leprachauns from my old hood. Sweets went ahead and told the children when they asked about the little fellas that they would most likely visit them tonight and kill them in their sleep.

I'm glad that someone for real celebrates St. Patrick's Day. That's a good tradition, especially the part about him cooking all the yummy food!

I had to pretend to be a leprechaun for Ana & her friends and sneakily write a note and deliver some treats.

Oh I just read "lover of sweets" comment about little fellas killing them in their sleep and had a good, good laugh! Happy St. Pat's a day or so late indeed.
