A Couple of Gospel Questions

I had one of those moments again where I thought, "Hey, I think I'll record that on my blog!" Then thinking, "No, I probably shouldn't." Then again I thought, "Why in the world not? Its my blog." I will just assume that if somebody isn't interested in my thoughts on the gospel they will just quit reading.

I am a firm believer in the basic principles and ordinances of the gospel. I believe that any time you get worried about something or are confused in life, you can go back to those and you can feel the Spirit testify to you and you can know its all good. I enjoy a great gospel conversation. Some of the women in my relief society call me a scriptorian. I don't know what it takes to be qualified as one of those, but I don't think I'm even close to one of those. I just think that the gospel is really exciting and I really love to learn about it. Church usually focuses on the fundamentals, because, obviously, they are the most important. But I really like it when a good question comes up. I love it because usually, there is a great answer to be found! There are very few things (although there are some) where we have to say, "You know, we will probably never know in this life, so that is where faith comes in." And I'm totally fine with those questions.

Anywho...again, I get really excited when there is a new question that I don't remember pondering before. Anybody that wants to give some input here, please do. Unless you are against my religion and have just come upon my blog, then please don't bash or anything bizarre like that.

Here are my two questions that I plan to study this week:

1. When John the Baptist restored the Aaronic priesthood to the earth, he said this (as recorded in JSH and D&C 13) "Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of the Messiah, I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism, by immersion for the remissin of sins; and this shall never be taken again from the earth until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in righteousness." So, what does that mean? Offer again an offering? Who are these sons? What offering? When? I am going to try to find out unless one of you already know. Then just tell me.

2. John the Baptist baptized Christ in the River Jordan. Then, it is recorded several places that, "After he was baptized with water the Holy Ghost descended upon him in the form of a dove." Is that literal? Did it actually look like a dove came down and rested on him? Furthermore, what does it mean that the "dove is the sign of the Holy Ghost?" I think it is more of a literal "sign" than just meaning a "symbol". Hm...

If any of those questions also make you go "hm" or if you can shed some light for me, please do. Otherwise, I'll be heading over to talk to my dad and search through some of their books.

When I read "Gospel Q's" I expected you to bring up a few and give us your wisdom, not just leave them at that.

Once in Israel one of my professors talked about that "sons of Levi offering" and it seemed like there was perhaps going to be some actual literal offering of sorts?/ Maybe at Adam-on-di-ahmon?? I can't remember.

I will tell you this though, the Holy Ghost cannot be transformed into a dove. But a dove is the sign of the HG and Satan can't ue it and as I understand it, a dove did literally appear, to testify of the truth of the deed (this is all on page 81 in your RS Joseph SMith book.

That's all I know.

P.S. Megan does always tell me how you are a fountain of gospel knowledge and that if I ever need a specefic story about an apostle or certain quotes, etc. that there is no need to search around when you are just a phone call away!

i wish i had some wisdom to share about your questions because they really are good ones... but your post made me really think about the questions i have, and how, when i just need a little spritual info but more religious/scriptural clarification, i go to my dad too. i love the good digging to find answers but when i just can't figure it out on my own, he's my scriptorian "lifeline". i hope to get to that point one day ... it sounds like you already are there. :)

Great questions but answers I have none. I'm interested in seeing what you find. Keep us posted on your search.

Hi Shanoni, I just started getting back on the computer loop. And all the emails about my ghost were so distracting I couldn't get to the blogs. You know... So anyway I too think you are a scriptorian, but I prefere my name for you; the walkinh archive. Yeah I love you, and love that when I ever have a question I just go to you. I love you, Meg

No answers here, just speculations that the sons of Levi are the Jews, what Jews" Not sure. I asked Sweets what he thought and this is what I got out of him. Of course I slapped him so hard and told him to go read his scriptures immediately.
Seriously thoug, I love that you have these deep sorts of questions...you are a fountain of scriptorial knowledge, it's true.
I am a fountain of muscle and beauty.
Ha ha ha, I love myself so much! No, seriously, I do.

I hope you will post the answers you find.
And don't be shy about a future good gospel question. It's very interesting when others pick up on things you completely miss!

thanks for all the nice comments, everybody! And Juli, nice to have a comment from you. This post was cool because I've had people e-mail me that i didn't even know were reading my blog. cool. Anyway, i think i have the basic answers to these questions now thanks to my mom, my dad, and Maggie (thank you!). The info about the sacrifice and son's of levi felt very sacred, so if you are truly interested in what was shared with me, I'll be happy to pass it along. just e-mail me and i'll e-mail you back!
