Today was the day that Deedsy has been waiting for since...well...since her last performance, or, as she says it, "pre-formance". Deedsy and String Cheese started taking tap and ballet last fall. String Cheese wasn't happy with the class, although she did very well. Because I'd paid for the costume and because I thought she might change her mind, I told her that she needed to stay in dance until after the Christmas recital. She was a good sport about it. She did a beautiful little dance for Christmas and looked stunning. But right when it was over she said to me, "Now I never have to dance again, right Mom?" And I couldn't go back on my word.
I was afraid that since SC didn't enjoy it then Deedle wouldn't want to do it any more either. Boy was I wrong! That girl loves to dance. I will often find her in the mirror singing, "I like to move it move it! I like to move it move it!" And she certainly does.
Today she had a dance performance at a middle school. She and her little group did a super cute little ballet (if you could call it that) to the song "The Flu" from the Hair Spray soundtrack. She was tired because it was nap time, but she did well and was happy to have Dad and Loumy watching and cheering for her. I really don't know that there is much of a cuter sight than eight 4-year-olds doing ballet.
After the pre-formance we came home, had dinner, then went as a family to Farr's Icecream (of course). Deedle kept referring to it as the ice cream "parlor". I'm not sure who taught her that but I love it. We then went to the park and played for awhile before coming home and heading to bed. What a fun day it was for Deedle and for the family together.
I hope you enjoy these photos. They are totally Deedle to a "T". She can be so fun and mischievous but when it comes to dancing, she is all business. She is also all business when it comes to what is appropriate to eat at a certain age. Tonight as we walked out of the ice cream "parlor" (you know I love parlors), Deedle saw a man about Chancho's age. She scrunched up her face and incredulously, with some disgust, asked, "Why is HE eating PLAYDOUGH ice cream?" Of course, she and her two siblings were eating playdough ice cream, but she was quite bereft that an adult male would eat it. I was a bit disturbed myself.

Ohh that is awesome. I love those pics and that it looks like a nice heat pack on her head. That girl has got some sweet moves. I know 'cause I've seen them.
When I first looked I could not figure out why you would let your child wear a bow that looked like an ice pack thinger.... but, whew, it was on purpose!
But what I really liked was the blankie accessory. So couture! Is that even how you spell it, obviously I lack same couture. ;)
And the parlor - OH how I miss that Parlor! I love licorice ice cream. Most think it is the nastiest but I must say I crave it at odd times and can't do anything about it because I am soooo far from the licorice ice cream. I am so jealous that you got to enjoy that parlor with your family. Yes, I'm in heaven just thinking about it - and I'm craving that licorice ice cream.
Your Deedle is very cute - especially with an ice pack bow!
Let me tell you something. I recently discovered google reader. It's nice because you put in all the blogs you read and then you just go to google reader to see if anyone has a new post -- and it shows the posting off to the right. Then, if you scroll down it, it marks it as "read" (or you can just mark it as read yourself), then it shows that that blog has no posts . . . so the next time you look, if there is a new one, there will be a little (1) or (2) by their name. It's nice because then I just click in one place to see if anyone has a new post rather than checking all my many blogs I frequent. The only trouble with this is that sometimes you just read it on google reader and forget to go to the real post and comment. BUT, the point of all that is to tell you this: the minute you "publish" a post, it shows up as a new one in google reader, even if you then save it as a draft or whatever. So, finally, this brings me to you. After TWO posts last night, I was amazed when I saw that you had A NEW POST this very morning!! It was the hypo-bole post and I laughed and laughed because it was the best post ever and I had quite a thing or two to say about it, so I raced to your blog to comment, but lo and behold, it was NOT THERE!!! So, I am guessing you have it saved as a draft for later and you probably must wait a minute so people will get a chance to read these last two posts, but ohhhh I can't wait. Wowzers this is the longest comment ever. It will take up all the comment board and no one will like it. I should have emailed all this I can see now, but here I was at your blog, looking for hyperboles. So, as soon as you read this go ahead and trash it with your new found google reader information.
j - i have a friend who gets a scoop of licorice AND a scoop of chocolate peanut butter icecream every time she goes to said parlor. crazy! and besides good icecream, any of us that grew up in this town seem to have at least several really fond memories of Farrs, which always makes it an enjoyable experience (going as a treat as a kid, after baptisms for the dead as a teen, going with friends for whatever when we had a car, probably going there on dates, etc, and then starting the whole tradition over with our own kids)
Perla,
I love your blog, you're a natural!
What a poser little Deedle is. That's the Deedle I know, all attitude and heart. You look darling in the picture with Deedle.
I'm glad you're blogging, it's fun to see the creativity of your friends. P.S. I wasn't offended when you said even Jas liked Dant, I knew what you meant!!
thanks for the info, nank. i need it. and yes, i did accidentally publish a post but decided maybe i should wait a day since i went five days with nothing, then suddenly i had three posts in one day.
where do i find this mysterious google reader? i know i know. just google "google reader" right?
fine, i'll publish the other post but i wasn't sure if it was funny after i wrote it and i was also afraid that nobody would see the post about meg if i did. oh well.
Tell her Congrats on being such a beautiful dancer! I still cannot get over how cute that wig is and how great you look in it!
