What I Want for Mother's Day

I rarely have an idea of what I want for Mother's Day. But this year I do! I want this painting. It is by Liz Lemon Swindle and you can read the story about how she came up with the idea for it here. For those of you who know me, it doesn't take much of an imagination to understand why this painting touches me so deeply. The title of it is "Worth of a Soul". Most of you know that my son is from Haiti and that I love the children of that country very much. This painting was inspired in Zambia, but the struggles that the children in many African nations are facing is the same of those in Haiti. I really don't know what more to say about this painting except that it speaks volumes to me, very personally. I have had the opportunity to see and hold and spend time with children that have had to endure so much suffering. I am trying my best to do something, to help in some way, but it is never enough. Only thinking about the power and love that our Saviour possesses brings me hope. And, in the spirit of the Sabbath (okay, it actually ended 42 minutes ago, but its still Sunday until I go to sleep), I will share a few more of her paintings that I really, really love. The last one is called "Mother". So beautiful, right?

Anyway, I better make sure that Chancho reads this. I really want the $500 limited edition canvas of "Worth of a Soul" but that is not going to happen, so I'll happily settle for the largest print available!

I also love that painting! And yes I was talking about the pics of the morgue, it makes me ill looking at all those babies and the one of the baby lying on the street. I still have one of your books to return so when we get together I will make sure that I get it to you.

Where were you and all these pictures when I was trying to gather pictures of the Savior for my DVD?? Beautiful! And Liz Swindle is my favorite for many reasons so I can see why that print is your favorite for many reasons! And if I had an extra $500 I would buy it for you if Chancho can not - for many reasons but mostly because you read my blog and comment every day and those little emails are my favorite thing to wake up to every morning - aside from my children....

Yes, super cool, and I know I shouldn't ruin anything special, but sometimes I like that show 30 Rock and I think the main lady is Liz Lemon . . . so for a minute, before I saw the Swindle, I thought you were going to refer me to some ridiculous joke painting. Of course, the real deal was much much better and now I want to get some inspirational artwork in my house.

That painting is beautiful! Just so you know you have always been an inspiration of service to me. On your next trip out there, let me know & we'll see what we can put together to send.
Yes ja-Ja provided the illustrations & after much consideration he said it was ok if your family played this game.

Paintings like those are an asset to a home. When something makes you feel the love of the Savior just by looking at it, it is worth the investment.
They are beautiful!

I have this painting! I love it, love it! The money spent on it also goes to a good cause! I am always looking for pictures with kids that have a little more color, my son Jamen said we should just use marker on some of the kids in our photos with Jesus...that's an idea, but I have to admit I like this painting better! Nancy, I was thinking about Liz Lemon from 30 Rock. I do love her, but she's not quite as "inspirational" as the real Liz Lemon with a little Swindle on the end.

Wow, these paintings are amazing. Thank you for sharing them as I'd have never known about them. Also, THANK YOU for having 80's music on your blog. I am a huge fan of almost all things 80's (except of course the Flash Dance sweatshirt cut off the shoulder and leg warmers.) Thank you for visiting my blog. It means so much to have your comments and especially the one about my son and my sadness at not knowing him other than a mother knows her child. I was so glad someone "got" that. Love your writing style and your posts. I'll be back!

Ooo Shan, I love those paintings. That first one, that little boy looks so sweet and helpless. just like the children in haiti are. You are one cool sis. Thanks for sharing those pics. I need to get some extra neat pics of the savoir. I think I want to eventually do one of my own. Who knows if I really could. Just thinking about it. Love you
