String Cheese has been awfully perturbed about something. Once she began reading, she loved to read everything. This is one of the first things she ever learned to read:
MADE IN CHINA
At first she thought it was really cool. "Mom!" she would exclaim, "This toy is from China, too!"
But yesterday I heard her mutter, "Utah is stupid."
"Why do you say that?" I asked.
"Because we don't make anything. China is WAY better. They make everything."
"Well, we make some thing, " I replied.
"Like what?"
"Hm...we grow really good corn and raspberries..."
"I mean like TOYS!" String Cheese shouted, somewhat annoyed.
So, with that in mind, I would like to show you a couple of really cool sites where people living here (okay, not Utah, but at least in the USA) are making really fun things. They are both my friends and both are very creative! I am trying to buy "local" and "handmade" more often.
Sarah makes really cool stuffed animals, all by hand! Check out this "unlucky rabbit" and "lucky rabbit foot key chain" combo.
Flaky-Friends
and
Like Jodi, where she makes cool things like this notebook. It is recycled from an old children's book and has the story in it but then also has blank pages for writing. I have a Hansel & Gretel one that I carry with me to make notes of decorating or home improvement ideas.

That rabbit is too cute! And the book is a really good idea as well.
See what I mean, it's like, blog freeze blog freeze, post post post. I love the kid's book idea. Way cool. Also, I did read hollywood's post about rabbit feet and had a good laugh.
Thanks for the shout-out, Perla! The whole China thing is SO frustrating because there really is no way that we can compete with their prices. I get so sad when I go into a toy shop and see so many toys selling for $10 and under. Even the simplest toy takes a LOT of time.
So I applaud you in your quest to buy American - it's an effort of love and I'm hoping that more people like you start to appreciate things for the thought that goes into them rather than their price tag.
And yeah, COOL notebooks! I hope no real Golden Books were harmed in the process... jk - I love it when people "upcycle." There's a whole lot of creative out there!
I laughed when I read Hollywood's descriptions of all her different animals....she is so very creative and talented.
But, why are your Shandanas not on here for Heaven's sake!? I love those and if I ever get to see them I would surely buy one (or two).
I liked your friend Jodi's website too...way cute stuff.
I'm with String Cheese....tired of seeing Made in China labels on every single toy, well that and the fact that they are always painted with deadly lead paint.
Wood floors int eh end will be more green friendly. You will be using less water since you will not have to wash ans shampoo them weekly. you will also use less poer since they do not need vacuuming. See you are in fact saving the planet by installing them. You are a Planet Saver:)

I love that book idea. And I love that Grace sounds like Connor and Wil to me.
Thanks for stopping by! I thought Perla had the wrong site then I saw it was you. I love the rabbit. I need to get one for my hubby, he would think that was wayyy cool.
Thank you so much for the link - my sweet friend :) I love to support local creative economies as well.
Love ya,
Jodi
