This and That

First of all, Happy Birthday to my handsome husband! I love Chancho so much! Here is a picture of him from his 8th birthday. Okay, not really but when we first watched Nacho Libre, we were amazed at all the similarities the two had--my husband also was raised as a chubby little orphan in Mexico. That is a lie, too. We just really like Nacho Libre. Below is the real man. To be honest, he doesn't love that I blog. He is quite a private person. I think a big nightmare he has is that somebody from his place of employment will come upon our blog and know all about us. But I know of one that does and so far everything has been fine. Anyway, Chancho turned 33 on Tuesday. We went on a date last Saturday to eat at Ye Lion's Den (which turned out good but was a last minute choice because Temari was closed for the weekend). We saw, "Ghost Town". It was funny but probably would recommend you wait to see it on video (unless you are us and you only get to go to a movie once or twice per year, then you just go when you can go and you watch whatever is playing). Tuesday Chancho had to work all day but we did have his requested broccoli/cheese soup for dinner and pie for dessert (rather than cake). Chancho, you are a wonderful husband and father. I love you!

In other news, there was an election on Chancho's birthday. You will not find me waxing political very often. It is not my favorite thing. I am very sensitive to contention and it makes me feel nauseous. It has been my experience that very few political conversations last long with out getting contentious, thus I equate politics = puke. But this election was very historic for our nation. I am mostly conservative and do have opinions on politics, I just rarely discuss them with others. I had a few Democrats that I voted for on my ballot, but I voted Republican for president. John McCain did not win. Rather, we now have Barack Obama as our President-Elect. I believe in supporting our Democracy, whether or not I voted for the individual that is put into office, so you will not hear me bad mouthing Pres. Obama (I think we're pretty dang lucky to live in the USA, if you haven't gathered that from posts like the one below). As for a person, I actually like him. I read a couple of books that he wrote. He is very likable. I was more concerned with the Supreme Court justices that he will appoint and the power these most likely very liberal judges will have to interpret or change the constitution, protect the right of life, faith, and the family. But the votes have been cast and there are things that I will happily cling to as a bright side. I will pray for Pres. Obama, that he will make good choices and be good for our country. I will pray that he will be a strong leader and a good example. I find it a huge blessing, miraculous blessing, actually, that the first President of the United States my son will remember will be an African American. That is absolutely amazing to me and I'm so grateful for that symbol--to let Loumy know that he can absolutely be anything that he wants to be, that this is the land of opportunity!I have been amused by the two things that my kids brought home from school today. We really didn't talk much about the election at home (see above, politics = puke), so I was surprised to hear my children talking about our new president. Two things were said (and warranted a good discussion) just this morning.
Loumy: Mom, Bawack Obama is ouw new PWOPHET!
String Cheese: Mom, is it true that Barack Obama wants to kill everybody with blonde hair and blue eyes?

Last topic for today: Baby Dhost. I will be calling it that for now because one time I saw a "World News" magazine with the title, "Woman Gives Birth to Baby Ghost." For some reason I thought that was the most hilarious thing ever and nearly peed my pants laughing. Also, my nephew Beau used to say, "dhost" instead of "ghost" and I think that is cool. So, here is a pic of my own little Baby Dhost.
I had an ultrasound today and was sure we would be able to tell the gender. My sisters Amy and Kathy came with me and my father-in-law (my nurse midwife) tried not to disappoint but he said he just could not be sure yet. I would grimace whenever there was a view that looked very much like a boy and relax a little when I thought it was a girl. Kathy, a very defensive aunty, said, "Don't you dare make this baby think you don't love it if it's a boy!" And of course I won't. I just hope that I get to have my baby Sarah now so that I don't have to have an achy, missing child feeling for several years after this. Some members of my family keep saying this is a boy and I have to go adopt Sarah from China. I don't think that is funny. I want her here and now and to be done. I guess we'll have to wait until next week to see if God pulled a fast one on me or not.

she looks like a Sarah, but if you do decide to name her something else at the hospital you will have to endure that achy missing someone feeling, so hold to the rod and just name her Sarah.

Mike also gets very nervous about me freely sharing so much of our life. Too bad it is so fun. Happy B-day to your husband. He's extra nice these days, or maybe always, who knows, but we like him.

As for politics. I'm with you on contention equals me passing out, but living here at dad's with O'Reilly and the like BLARING so so loudly (poor dad), Abe has been very interested in this election and very worried about both options, BUT as you mentioned with Loumy, we talked about how it really is pretty amazing that our country could come to the point of having a black pres. and how amazing and historic that was.

Lastly, you saw "woman gives birth to baby ghost" in St. George . . . or at least we discussed it there in depth -- particularly her labor, and yah, we laughed and laughed. BUT, quit knocking little Johnny and saying you hope it aint him 'cause you don't want to wait for Sarah-- mean. BUT, if it is Sarah, yippee too!!

To Chancho: "Take it easy" (insert fake Mexican accent here)

This post was really funny. I laughed when I read what String Cheese said, I want to know who she has been talking to. Also, the baby is looking good. I am going to call her Sarah until further notice.

ok, so many things to comment on. first, you kept saying you thought our jasons were similar (and not just in baldness :) ) and after reading about him a little bit, i would agree completely! from taste in movies to pie for bday celebration. :) that's all jas wanted!

i'm with you on the politics. i don't like to talk about it and like you obama wasn't my vote, but i too think he's a good person doing what he thinks is best. and in truth, it is an AMAZING thing for our country to have an African American president. :) the possibilities are endless. :)

happy baby. it makes me so happy to see your little baby ultrasound ... and i'm crossing my fingers sarah is in there instead of seth. :)

Great post, friend. Let's see ...

To Chancho: ¡Feliz cumpleaños a tí!

To Baby Dhost: Grow & BE WELL. We look forward to welcoming you into the world :)

Re: Obama. I SO cried when he won. I cried joyful tears while I rocked Isaac in front of the tv while watching Obama's live victory speech. So well said. So historic. So good for the future of my son. Now I can teach him about slavery and the civil rights movement and finish it all off by telling him that America is SO WONDERFUL to have SO quickly gotten past some of our race issues ... that we actually voted in a black president just 150 years after slavery and only 50 years after segregation. WOW! America is amazing. I have never felt so patriotic as I do now. Though he was not my favorite choice (we wanted Ron Paul) I did take Isaac into the voting booth to cast our vote for Obama ... and I am looking forward to what the future holds. I think that so many people who did not vote for Obama also feel the same way as you ... they want to celebrate this historic occassion ... and rally together to turn this country around... without any bitterness or fighting. Here's hoping and praying that we can come together and make this country even greater :)

Love you much friend. Thank you for always being honest about who you are and how you feel. It is SO refreshing!

Love,
Jodi

Ya know, our last baby we were sure was another son, but surprisingly it was our "Sarah", (and yes, we did name her Sarah!). Can't imagine not having her, as well as can't imagine how old I'm going to be if "son" ever comes! (The rate I have babies he could have one old mamma!)

O so much to say...first Happy late Birthday Cancho macho. Very nice sum up on your political feelings. Connor told me that today on the bus people were saying Obama was a terrist. Yeah thats a new one.
i am so excited for our new baby what ever my little person is that is coming down to earth! I told nancy that if she didn't mind maybe I could have her baby for a week every so often. I want your baby too, but your to much like me and I am sure couldn't possibly spare the little angel for that long....so i guess i will be making trips down.
And the baby ghost! I was with you in St.George or where ever we were and laughing so hard that it must have been the easiest delivery ever! And how cool that she sisn't even need to get undressed. oooo good times..

Cancho,

When you are a man, sometimes you wear strechy pants, in your room, just for fun. Now go away, go read some books.

I laughed hard when I read about your husband Chancho's birthday(Happy Birthday) and Nacho Libre. We are big fans(clean Black Jack, Kung Fu Panda very funny.) We often torture family/friends w/it when they stay w/us and they always end up liking it.
We voted Mc.Cain for the same reasons. Were very patriotic, like him, support and pray for him too. We had the "pwophet" talk at our house too lol It is so wonderful that our children will have an African American President in office when they will remember this (for ours when they come to America etc.)
I really enjoyed reading your sweet post about your baby Sarah. You truly have such a wonderful talent for writing and sharing your story. Congratulations, I'm very excited for you guys! Adorable ultrasound of your little baby. I'm anxiously awaiting your news. ;)

The president conversation between your kids was a little frightening, but at least they are talking about it and recognize a change in government. It looks like you have some presidential discussions in your future. I too am hoping for a girl, mostly because I really want Meg to have a sister, but of course we will be happy with a boy, right? Of course your reason for wanting a girl is a better one. I know my family will be complete after this one. Not knowing if there is someone else left out there would drive me crazy.
