When we are driving in the car, String Cheese often brings up her future. There is often discussion of motherhood with questions that are a little vague and hard for me to answer. She asks, "What will it be like when I'm a Mom?" and "What will I think when I'm a Mom?"
She likes to ask about marriage and who she might marry. She is quite set on a certain young man, Bryan Joseph. And Deedle has decided she will marry his older brother, Bradley. Here is SC with Bryan a few years ago. "Can I marry my cousin?" "Is Bryan (Joseph) my cousin?" (No, he's not her cousin and, at this point I definitely approve. ::whew:: )
She likes to talk about what she will be when she grows up. She has a lot of questions. "Can I be a mom?" "Do I have to have another job?" "What if I don't know how to do the job I want to do?"
Saturday the conversation started again while we were taking a drive. Deedle came up with the idea that she would like to be a candy maker. Her only concern, "What if I don't know how to make the wrappers?"
SC then said, "I think I would like to make dresses. Is that something I could do? I could be a dressmaker? And design my own dresses? And have my own dress shop? Can you teach me how to do that?"
I discussed with the girls their concerns and expressed excitement. Loumy had been listening in and kept trying to interject, but they weren't giving him much opportunity. Finally I quieted the girls and said, "Okay, Loumy, sorry that you didn't get a turn to talk. What did you want to say?"
With his eyebrows raised, he looked as though he had just come up with an absolutely brilliant plan for his life. "When I grow up, " he said excitedly. "I want to be a skateboard guy and a Dad and a' old woman!"

An old women uh? You might need to hide your dresses!LOL Really that is so cute. You have such CUTE KIDS!
I am chuckling and chuckling. That is awesome. Speaking of growing up, it makes Goldie real super mad. If you ever even hit that she might grow up, she throws a fit, and if even Daisy talks about bedoming a mom someday it sets Goldie to wailing. In fact, she wanted a "chick" for a pet. I told her it would grow into a chicken and she only wanted the kind that wouldn't grow up.
Oh I love where those conversations go sometimes! Your kids are so cute and dang smart. Did Loumy express any concern as to how he would manage becoming an old woman? That would be a fun one to answer. You are such a great mom to talk to them about their hopes and dreams and to encourage them. I love it!
Hey Nancy, you need to play that song from Peter Pan for your Goldie "I won't grow up"...Kate and Chookie are singing it next week at their voice recital. Maddie will be singing "A bushel and a peck".
Go, Loumy Lou! Dream the impossible dream! FIght the... well... never mind. Momma says not to fight.
Very thoughtful kids, Perla. I'm glad they'er thinking!
Hee hee...these are my favorite posts because you feel like you were just in the car ride with you. I love those littles they are the coolest. O and By the way I reallty apreciate that you had a concern for me running away when no one else did. You've always been that way! I love you,Meg
that's great! don't you just love the things that come out of their mouths? :) my sister always wanted to be a fairy godmother when she grew up ... i guess it's great to dream big! :)
I love to hear kids talk about what they will be when they grow up. When I grow up I want to be a more patient and attentive mother and wife. Liz
