My First Tooth Fairy Assignment

String Cheese had struggled for many months with the fact that she was one of only two kindergarteners without her name on the lost tooth chart in class. A few weeks ago she was delighted to discover that she finally had a loose tooth--her right-middle-bottom tooth. Regrettably, several weeks later the tooth was not much looser. Instead, her jagged, new, big-girl tooth was growing right behind the loose tooth. So, today we went to the dentist and he pulled out both of her bottom, middle teeth. SC was very good. She was a bit nervous when they put the gas-thing over her nose, and I was a bit worried when Loumy ran over and started pushing buttons to increase its levels and I had to yell for the nurse to come in...and the shots were kind of scary and painful. She asked me to sing a lullaby that I made up about her and she said that made her feel better.

At first she was very worried that having two teeth "pulled" would not reap the same rewards as "losing" teeth. She was also distressed that when she began making phone calls from my cell the moment we left the dentist office, that most people were not available. Then she finally got Grandma Debbie but, "She really didn't sound that excited." (Although she sounded plenty excited to me).

The day turned out very happy for her. She was able to put up not one but TWO paper, personalized teeth on the chart at school. Dad did the excited--laying on the floor thing for her--kicking his arms and legs about like she does when she's excited. Aunt Kathy and Grandma Sharon called to check on her (little did I know that she had called them around 7am to let them know she was going to the dentist). And, her kind Uncle John even came over to our house and gave her two dollars! She had a special pillow that my mom had given to her which I had used to put teeth in for the Tooth Fairy as a child.

I had a soccer game tonight (we won and I scored a goal, yahoo! and i felt healthy, yahoo!), so Chancho had the kids in bed by the time I came home. I usually sing them each a lullaby. When I'm gone he sings them "Fried ham, fried ham, cheese and baloney..." They love it.

To my delight, as I went to do the Tooth Fairy duty, I found not one but two bags of carrots and a note that had been left for me (Deedle wanted to get in on the action so she left me a bag, too). I thought that was very thoughtful of them. Having just been to the dentist and knowing that the Tooth Fairy would like nice healthy teeth, they chose carrots unlike the cookies and milk that fat old Santa wants.

Your post was so cute Shan. Your String Cheese is so sweet. I'm always impressed by her when she comes to play with my two little drama queens. I can see that those two try her patience, but she stands strong and always tries to be the bigger person. She's just good that way. I'm glad she lost a couple of teeth. Chookie is getting pretty impatient about the whole losing teeth thing. I've told her that one of her teeth on the bottom feels loose to me, and this makes her so happy. I just love what makes these little people happy and excited. I hope to hear Chancho sing the fried ham and bologna song some time.

2 bucks! You have a rich uncle tooth fairy. But I guess uncles can spoil their nieces if they want to.
My favorite tooth fairy moment was with my 2nd boy. He was about 8 and when the tooth fairy came to collect his tooth and much to her surprise she found a note. He thanked her for leaving him some money and then asked if she wanted to buy his alarm clock for $5.
I still have the note - it's priceless!

Oh, you guys are the cutest ever. Who ever knew about leaving treats for the tooth fairy? By the by, I also got a nice chat with your little girl at about 7:oo am the morning she was to report to the dentist. SHe told me honestly that she was a bit nervous. How cute she is! I'm glad you pulled them becuase that happened with one of ABe's big front ones and so he had two in one spot for awhile and then the other finally fell out, but now one of his two top teeth is way in front of the other. Oh well, that poor kid will be needing major braces regardless. His tiny baby teeth were jammed so tight to begin with that I don't know how any of these new ones are to fit in.

O goodness that pillow just brought me back. And the soccer game just brought me back...back to the time some giant girl ran into you, made you fall and some how you rolled out like some gymnast back to your feet. Then later confided that your uterus was collapsed because of the whole ordeal...hee hee..good times...
some what sad I didnt't get a call from my little girl telling me about the tooth experience... O well... love your guts....

Meg, i thought you and Nank would enjoy seeing that pillow again. And guess what? Another piece of good news! The pillow can be washed and I did wash it and it got all clean and nice just like my afghan! amazing huh?
If you didn't get a call its only because she has only figured out how to call the people on "my favs" by herself and those calls at 7am were made unbeknownst to me. When she calls you i have to walk her through it and you are only not on my favs because we have free mobile to mobile so the 5 other numbers have to be non t-mobile numbers. Anywho...you will be happy to know that you are #3 on speed-dial, though.
