Megan has decided to devote this week to the 80s. I am sure that I can come up with many posts regarding that decade. Born in 1974, the 80s covered the years of my life six through sixteen.
As I reflected on the 80s I realized that they were some of the most happy and also the most difficult times of my life. I'm sure that doesn't sound original. Who doesn't have major ups and downs in childhood and into adolescence? I was a very happy child but the onset of puberty seemed to trigger a couple of hidden auto-immune things in me that have been at the base of my largest trials in life. I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata just as I entered my teens and I began experiencing a lot of depression and, now that I can look back, some other mental issues. It is my theory that a lot of mental illness, including mine, is auto-immune. So, anywho...the first half of the 80s felt mostly like this:

The Second half of the 80s had a lot of this (thank goodness for mom!):
The 80s were a time of discovering myself. A lot of my memories are tied very closely to music. I was a KJQ girl all the way with some occasional hip hop or rap mixed in, but mostly only for dancing pleasure with my friends. This song from Freur was one of my all-time favs of the 80s. And, strangely enough, I still really like it. So, I will come up with some 80s
memories. Look for new posts coming soon (or avoid my jib for the rest of this week if you have no interest in my life during that precious decade).
Kelly, if this song doesn't make you want to leave a comment, then nothing will!

Okay, if your face wasn't on all those pictures, I woulda thought that was me given that I had ALL those hairstyles. Every one. And I think I had that same dress. But that is your mother. And that is exactly how I remember her - teaching drama at OHS. Me the Mother Nun in the Sound of Music. I was good and your mother liked me. I got an A. This could be one scary week ...don't know that I can look. Please don't include leg-warmers.
KJQ Rocked!!! I had a cow binder with KJQ written on it and, even a cow retainer. I still wish that big hair was in style, I would be so cool. You were just as cute when you were little as you are now! Do you think MC Hammer pants will ever come back? Or the one strap overalls?
Yeah kelly where have you been Dear Darling Kelly
That freur song was my favorite too. I think 'cause Aaron liked it. Also, I forgot how I tried to act cool about KJQ because you and kell and Pattsy were cool and liked it.
(Oh my goodness, I am not kidding that my word verification has a few letters and then spells poop. How awful that I should be forced to type that.)
"It's 4:30, time for milking." I'm sure most of us will never forget that line from KJQ. I have never liked a radio station as much as I liked KJQ. I've come to realize the 80's are defiantly all about the bangs. I guess we all had them.
Man that was so cool...You made it have some awesome meaning. And ofcourse that song reminds me of you and Aaron so so much. I love the pictures you chose. I love you, Meg
Jana, did you hang out with Crystal Poll? I keep trying to remember you from those days...I'm sure my mom did love you!
Oh Sarah! That kills me that you had the cow binder and a cow retainer! I wish I still had all my KJQ stickers. I think they were stuck all over my school binders! I can only pray for the MC Hammer pants. :)
Liz! Heck yes. Todd Nukem, "It's 4:30. Time for milking." That is hilarious!
I too was a KJQ girl and I loved Freur as well as Underworld; which was Freur initially or vice-versa. Anywho, ah yes the blown out bangs...those were nice. Zhateal was hot back in the day (AFTER the Ralph Macchio stage of course)
Your pictures are cool. Love you!
